Port Canal

An oxygen bubble

Did you know that there’s a marina right in the heart of Montauban? This is where water and land meet.

It’s an ideal place to stroll or cycle. Don’t forget your picnic.

Port Canal

a site in the heart of Montauban

Located just a stone’s throw from the city center, Port Canal is a haven of peace and greenery, offering a complete change of scenery.

The gentle ripple of multicolored boats, the chirping of birds and the accents of onlookers set the mood. Welcome to Port-Canal.

Port Canal awarded Blue Flag

Combine business with pleasure and enjoy the bucolic setting of the canal banks.

The international Blue Flag label is awarded to towns and marinas that systematically apply a sustainable tourism development policy. An action in favor of sustainable development that contributes to the fight against pollution. The main values of the label are: environmental quality, respect for nature, protection of the marine environment, environmental awareness, water quality, cleanliness and accessibility of beaches.

The label, awarded in 2022 and 2023, has just been renewed for 2024. Greater Montauban intends to apply for this title every year. Among the new initiatives undertaken by Greater Montauban that have enabled it to obtain renewal of this label are :
– A biodiversity inventory carried out by the local authority’s sustainable development department
– A planting program to encourage the development of the site’s insects and animals, implemented by the City of Montauban’s green spaces department.
– The Harbour Master’s Office continues to raise awareness of eco-gestures among boaters: a genuine sustainable development policy has been developed on site.
– Les Logis du Port, a bicycle and group accommodation facility, was opened in the spring: a long-term initiative aimed at developing the economic appeal of the site.
– A brand-new parking lot to provide safe access to the site and reduce the number of vehicles parked “illegally”.
– The “Mon canal propre” operation, supported by the local authority, took place in April, on the initiative of the Association des communes du canal des Deux-Mers.
These are truly cross-functional actions that are being worked on at community level to offer Montauban residents and tourists a real bubble of oxygen just a stone’s throw from the city center.

The label offers Greater Montauban the opportunity to be referenced on various sites and information networks, and underlines the community’s interest in all initiatives linked to biodiversity and the protection of the flora and fauna of this attractive site. This Blue Flag could influence 81% of holidaymakers in their choice of destination.

Leaving Port Canal, you’re in for a treat. You’ll find locks built in the 19th century, an exceptional heritage that is being revived thanks to the dedication of a few enthusiasts, like Gabriel, who welcomes you to his “guinguette” restaurant in Lacourt-Saint-Pierre.
