The Crier's House

Have you ever seen a building with an enigmatic head at one corner that seems to be shouting?
According to oral tradition, this is where the town crier used to announce the fixed prices of goods and other legal declarations.

Every Saturday at 11.44am, the town crier announces the town’s cultural program!

At 11.44 a.m. to be precise, in reference to the date of Montauban’s foundation in 1144.

He’ll be delighted to show you our city’s cultural heritage, as well as his mysterious trunk!

Come closer, it contains objects that may seem unusual or intriguing at first glance, but they all hint at the history of Montauban.

A little history

2 rue Gillaque is an 18th-century building overlooking the beautiful Place Nationale, which retains some fine older features, notably a 15th-century turret and a 17th-century gallery.

Restored by the City of Montauban, the first floor now houses the Maison du Crieur, an exhibition and meeting place.
