The Foucault course

Park and meeting place for Montalbanais
Follow the park’s main avenue and admire the treasure that points skyward. The imposing war memorial sculpted by Antoine Bourdelle stands at the end of the avenue. The skyward-pointing columns are a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts, who draw inspiration from the Master’s work for innovative skyward-looking shots.

A little history

In 1679, Intendant Nicolas Joseph Foucault created the first public promenade on the site of today’s Cours du Tarn. This promenade had a dual purpose: to hold back the land that was collapsing along the Tarn, and to provide the people of Montalban with a place to enjoy themselves. Covering an area of 5 hectares, the Cours quickly became a popular spot for the city’s elegant society, who enjoyed strolling and appearing here… This tranquil park on the banks of the Tarn also invites you to take a stroll: Take a seat in the shade, for a family picnic punctuated by joyful moments near the playground, or a little further on, in the direction of Les Albarèdes, discover a place ideal for pétanque enthusiasts!

Here you’ll find the marathon, a not-to-be-missed event attracting athletes from all over France, and the 400 coups, the town’s annual funfair held on the 2nd weekend of September.
