Ingres and Delacroix perhaps, despite themselves, symbolize an emblematic moment in the history of art of the first half of the 19th century: the battle between Neoclassicism and Romanticism.
This exhibition re-examines this confrontation from an original angle: that of their artists' objects, familiar and everyday, useful to their creation or simple testimonies of their personal tastes, and explores in detail the world of the two painters.

This exhibition re-examines this confrontation from an original angle: that of their artists' objects, familiar and everyday, useful to their creation or simple testimonies of their personal tastes, and explores in detail the world of the two painters.
These intimate objects that belonged to them, joined to the objects of creation, are compared with views of workshops, paintings representative of their art and different portraits of the two men.
They speak to us in another way about the two artists, showing their differences but also leading to unexpected connections.
If they lead us to question the links between the lives of artists and their work, they also allow us to enter into the intimacy and creative process of two of the greatest French painters of the 19th century.
An exhibition co-produced by the Ingres Bourdelle museum - City of Montauban and by the Eugène-Delacroix national museum-Public establishment of the Louvre museum.
