Day 3

Saturday, June 22 :

Saturday is market day! So why not fill your basket before you go dancing?

One of the biggest in the region, where over 190 stalls of local producers present their sun-drenched produce.

Here are our tips for finding our partner producers at the market

For a touch of cheese, opt for the succulent cheeses from Ferme du Ramier. Edith and Hélène, the 2 daughters, perpetuate the family know-how that goes back 4 generations. Don’t worry if you don’t recognize them at the market: they’re all dressed up in canotiers, with their lovely smiles and lilting accents!

When it comes to preserves, you’ll also find La Fabric’ des Pibouls, where Julie and Clément raise, process and market the produce from their free-range pig farm.

If you haven’t heard of them yet, discover the vins de Pays des Coteaux et Terrasses de Montauban. In Montauban glasses, rosés are lively and fruity, reds supple and elegant, whites highly aromatic and fresh. Mainly planted on the gravel of the Aveyron terraces and the clay-limestone slopes, the Montauban vineyards are planted with Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Tannat, Gamay, Syrah, Jurançon and Merlot. You’ll find all these flavors at the Domaine de Montels vineyard.

Good to know

If you’re a short-distance enthusiast, this is the place to go for an escape tinged with 100% south-western flavors, to find great products and participate in thelocal economy.

It's almost time for the Criée, so meet up at the Maison du Crieur.

"Oyé Oyé, Oyons Oyons!!!"

Do you know this building with an enigmatic head at one corner that seems to be shouting? According to oral tradition, this is where the town crier used to announce the fixed prices of goods and other legal declarations.

You haven’t got much time, because at precisely 11.44 a.m., the town crier is still waiting for you! To announce the town’s cultural program!

Why 11:44 precisely? Simply in reference to the founding date of the town of Montauban, in 1144. With passion, he takes you on a tour of our city’s cultural heritage, including his mysterious trunk!

Come closer, it contains objects that may seem unusual or intriguing at first glance, but they all hark back to Montauban’s rich history.

Young and old, the Crier awaits you!

Would you like to relax and have a drink before your meal? If you’re looking for a refreshing break, Place Nationale is just around the corner. Set your eyes on this emblematic square and you’ll be captivated by its historic charm and friendly atmosphere, all the more lively after the market.

After this drink and this “shot” of conviviality, it’s time to eat in the alleys adjacent to this square, which are full of good addresses:

How about a little guidance?

Now it’s time to “feed the spirit”. The heritage center invites you to discover the city and the museum collections with their tour guides. At 2.30pm, let Montauban tell your story. For 1h30, discover the Pont Vieux, Saint-Jacques church and the cathedral, witness to the rich history of Montauban, marked by the Cathar crisis and the Wars of Religion. From one street to the next, admire the facades of 17th- and 18th-century townhouses.

At 4.30pm, discover the collections of the Musée Ingres Bourdelle. Housed in the former episcopal palace, the museum was created in 1820 thanks to several prestigious donors. In 1867, it was enriched by collections donated by Ingres, joined a few decades later by a group of sculptures by Bourdelle. Always in the company of your tour guide, discover the richness and variety of these collections, as well as the setting in which they are housed, from the medieval foundations to the episcopal apartments.
