Pink October is a national awareness campaign that runs throughout October. Its main aim is to encourage breast cancer screening, so that any abnormalities can be detected as early as possible, when they can be more easily treated. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in France, and remains the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. For most women (particularly those aged between 50 and 74 with no previous history of the disease), regular screening is offered every two years as part of the national organised screening programme. This screening includes a mammogram and, in some cases, an ultrasound scan, sometimes with a clinical examination. Mammography as part of this programme is covered at 100% by the health insurance scheme, with no advance payment, provided you present the invitation letter you have received.
Greater Montauban takes action
The official launch of Pink October will take place on Saturday 4 October at the Montauban market. A stand, run by ARTEMIS, the Centre Ressource and the Ligue contre le cancer 82, will be open to the public. Helium-filled pink balloons will be handed out, and everyone will be able to send a personal message. Visitors to the stand will be able to find information about the screening campaign, as well as the full programme for the campaign in Greater Montauban.
