In 2016, the town of Montauban was classified as a “Commune touristique” by prefectoral decree. Following on from this, the town has just been classified as a “Station de tourisme”, a genuine recognition that encourages visitors to the town, enabling its development as well as the conservation and renovation of its heritage.
Awarded for a period of 12 years, the classification of Montauban as a “Station de tourisme” represents a real opportunity to enhance the attractiveness of the area, as well as a non-negligible interest in increasing tourism and economic activity.
Until now, Montauban was classified as a “Commune touristique”, the first level of classification based on three criteria: offering a classified tourist office, tourist activities and accommodation for a non-permanent population.
Only those municipalities that actively promote tourism by providing information, reception and promotion services, as well as promoting their natural, cultural and sporting resources throughout the year, can be classified as tourist resorts.
