From March to June, we invite you to take part in a series of guided tours that will plunge you into the heart of the history, art and culture of our beautiful city. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, these fun and enriching experiences will allow you to explore Montauban in new and captivating ways.

CHAMBOUL'TOUT

May 3 and June 21 at 2:30pm. Forget everything you know about traditional guided tours! This fun, offbeat tour turns Montauban into a life-size playground. Alone, with family or friends, let yourself be surprised by a joyful and unusual discovery of our city. An experience where imagination and good humor are your best guides.

SCULPTURES IN THE CITY

March 22 and June 7 at 2.30pm. Discover the works of art that dot our streets and squares. Made of bronze, steel or recycled materials, each sculpture tells a story and engages with the urban space. An invitation to contemplate and discover Montalban’s public art.

BRIDGE STORIES

April 5 and June 14 at 2:30pm. From medieval feats to 20th century innovations, our bridges are silent witnesses to the history of Montauban. Along the banks of the Tarn, discover these remarkable structures that tell the story of our city’s evolution. A technical and historical tour not to be missed (walking shoes recommended).

RANDO-URBAINE STREET ART

May 7 at 2pm and 4pm. Graffiti, stencils, mosaics… Street art adorns our walls with surprising creations. This urban stroll reveals the techniques and messages of this contested but always fascinating art form. A free discovery of the urban talents who transform our city into an open-air gallery.

RANDO-URBAINE LA RECONSTRUCTION

May 24 and June 28 at 2:30pm. After the floods of 1930, Montauban reinvented itself. From the neighborhoods of Sapiac to Villebourbon, discover how the city modernized while preserving its identity. A 3 km walk through the architecture of the 1930s (bring water and comfortable shoes).

The bucolic tour

MAY BY BIKE

May 25 at 9 a.m. A storytelling bike ride through the Montalban countryside, discovering ancestral pigeon lofts. Between poetic stories and rural heritage, this 2.5-hour ride will give you a different view of our region. Guided by professionals and accompanied by Marie-Laure Depaulis’s storytelling. A JOURNEY DOWN MEMORY LANE

May 16th to 17th

Take part in a series of events around Montauban’s cemeteries, including lectures and guided tours. Discover the history of the military cemeteries and the illustrious figures who rest here.

An opportunity to take a fresh look at our funerary heritage, between history, memory and contemporary issues. A moment of respectful discovery that allows us to understand the evolution of our city through its places of memory.

CEMETERIES THROUGH ARCHIVES

May 16 at 6pm. Meet at Espace Perbosc (2 bd E. Herriot). Dive into the fascinating history of Montauban’s cemeteries with Jean-Pierre Gauché, passionate historian and author of «Cimetières et tombeaux de Tarn-et-Garonne». Through a meticulous selection of period plans, architectural drawings and historical posters preserved in our municipal archives, discover the evolution of these places of memory. A free one-hour lecture that will open the doors to a little-known heritage.

DISCOVERING MILITARY SQUARES

May 17 at 2.30pm. Meet in front of the cemetery entrance (rue de l’Égalité). A moving visit in the company of representatives of the Office National des Combattants et des Victimes de Guerre. Explore the five military squares of the Montauban cemetery, silent witnesses to the great conflicts of the 20th century. Aline Simon, Director of the ONaCVG, Jim Ponty, Head of the Graves Maintenance Sector, and Lieutenant-Colonel Christophe Masse will share their knowledge of the history of these sites and the soldiers who lie there.

BETWEEN MEMORY AND BIODIVERSITY

May 17 at 4.30pm. Meet in front of the cemetery entrance (rue de l’Égalité). A double discovery awaits you! Let us guide you on a unique exploration of Montauban’s cemetery, a veritable open-air museum where history meets today’s environmental challenges. As you wander through the shady alleys, your guide will reveal the remarkable destinies of the personalities who have shaped our town’s identity. Artists, politicians, resistance fighters, benefactors… Each tomb tells a page of Montalban history, weaving a captivating tale through the centuries. This tour also offers a unique contemporary perspective: Philippe Dussau, director of the cemetery service, will share with you the new ecological approaches being implemented in these spaces. Discover how the cemetery is being transformed into a veritable refuge for biodiversity, where differentiated management of green spaces encourages the return of nature to the city, while preserving the dignity of the site.
